Daily sailing trips 1st May – 30th September

Experience how it was to be a Viking on board one of the Viking Ship Museum’s traditional Nordic boats, which are direct descendents of Viking ships. Our wooden ships sail several times a day, for an hour-long trip on the beautiful Roskilde Fjord. To take part, you must be over 4 years old and have an adult with you. Everyone takes part in the activities on board such a rowing, setting the sail and other such sailors work. There are a limited number of places available to children under 14 years of age.

Special family tours 24th June – 27th August

Every day during the summer, the Viking Ship Museum invites children and adults to take part in an exciting journey in the Vikings’ world! Join us on a family tour, where the focus is set on the Vikings’ journeys. We offer two different stories: one about war and trade, the other about journeys to distant shores.

Every day from the 24th June to  27th August, 12:00 and 15:00 in Danish, and 11:00 and 14:00 in English

Viking Craftwork

The boatbuilders are constructing a Viking ship using replica Viking tools. Follow their progress every day and see the large collection of tools in the workshop. The blacksmith, woodcarver, rope maker, willow worker and sail maker take turns in demonstrating their skills and if you are over 8 years of age, you can try your hand at the difficult crafts.

Make rope, carve beautiful patterns in wood or shape glowing iron at the smithy. There will be craftworkers in place every day – find out which workshops will be open during your visit by asking at the ticket desk.

Viking workshops for children

Everyone can take part in the Viking workshops, where children can make time fly whilst decorating a shield with paint made from beer or strike their own silver or copper coin to hang on a leather thong and wear around the neck as a good luck charm. You can also decorate a Thor’s hammer or make jewellery from colourful glass beads.

Want to learn all about Viking ships?

Daily guided tours focus on the five original Viking ships from Skuldelev, exhibited in the Viking Ships Hall. The ships bear witness to the specialised sea faring of the Viking Age, to wars and raids, trade and voyages to distant shores and life in the North 1000 years ago.
