Rope
In its present form, the rigging of Skuldelev 2 requires about 1,400 metres of hand-woven linden bast rope for the standing and running rigging, and some 600 metres of hand-woven horse hair rope for the sheets and bolt rope. In addition spare rope is required. The rope is being made by a ropemaker, who will spend some 5450 hours on the task. He will use 387 kg prepared linden bast (corresponding to approx. 4,500 one-metre-long branches as thick as an arm) and 174 kg horse hair (corresponding to approx. 600 horse tails).
