Daily summer boat trips
During the summer season you can join us for a very special experience on Roskilde Fjord, when we combine sailing and Viking Age knowledge.
At the Viking Ship Museum you can go directly from the encounter with the 1000 year old original viking ships on exhibit in the Viking Ship Hall to the Museum Harbour where you can go on a sailing trip in one of the viking ships' direct decendants - the traditional nordic wooden boats - which now 1000 years later are still built according to the same principles and methods as used by the vikings.
Muscle power and Knowledge about the Viking Age
It is an unique experience to set out on Roskilde Fjord with one of our skilled sailing instructors. We use on of the very same energy sources as the Vikings used to move forward - oars and the muscle power of the crew. During the trip, the sailing instructor will tell you about about rowing and sailing in the Viking Age and about the use of the traditional open boat.
The trip takes approx. 50 minutes, including allocation of life jackets and an introduction to the ship and rowing technique. All the participants crew the boat and will have to take an active part in the sailing by rowing. Every sailing trip is lead by an experienced sailing instructor.
