June 30 - August 11 2019
On June 29th, the large ocean-going merchant ship Ottar departs from Roskilde and is scheduled to return on August 11th. They plan to sail as far towards Sognefjord as they can in three weeks, after which they'll set the course back to Roskilde. Click on the map to follow the ship's route and read the diaries. You can control the information on the map by "ticking" of the fields.
On the map below you can see where Ottar is right now.
In 1999-2000, the Viking Ship Museum built Ottar, a reconstruction of Skuldelev 1, in the clinker-built tradition. The Nordic clinker-built boat is an important part of our collective cultural heritage here in Scandinavia. The boats have provided the foundation for Denmark as a seafaring nation through 1,000 years.
