Langelands Museum

In the exhibition on Langeland’s past at the museum in Rudkøbing, you can see objects from Viking graves on the island: fine riding equipment, various types of weaponry and bronze vessels made in Denmark and abroad. They are testimony to Langeland’s strategic location in the archipelago and its close links with the outside world. The highlight of the exhibition is a double-grave from Stengade in Rudkøbing. A chieftain was buried there with a bound and decapitated man by his side. The interpretation of the find is that the headless corpse may have been the Overlord’s servant who, after serving his master in life, also followed him in death.
