Lejre Museum

Lejre Museum has a exhibition about the Scylding dynasty, where you can see the many finds from excavations at Gl. Lejre. Here you can get up close and personal with a unique silver figurine of Odin – the king of the gods – sitting in his high seat Hlidskjalv accompanied by his two ravens, Hugin and Munin, see sacrificial finds of silver and gold, and learn more of the vital, legendary warrior Beowulf. The exhibition is divided into three main themes: in the first, visitors are introduced to the historical sources – the written legends as well as the archaeological evidence – a chance to both experience and immerse oneself via the use of sound, light and film, and it’s here you get an introduction to the history of the Lejre area. The second theme is designed as a large digital wall map, where you can seek info on monuments and excavations in the landscape around the museum. In the third theme, visitors can view the museum’s archaeological treasures.
