Bornholm Museum

For amateur archaeologist Klaus Thorsen it all started in 1993 with the discovery of a silver Arabic coin. The following day, more silver was discovered by his metal detector. Then it got a signal deeper down in the ploughing layer. Using his fingers, he scoured the soil and found the so-called "Pæregård Hoard" – one of Bornholm’s biggest ever silver hoard discoveries from around 950. This treasure trove had been buried between two roof-bearing pillars in a Viking Age building. Today, you can see the treasure in the museum’s exhibition along with other finds such as jewellery, garment clasps and adornments. And if you have the courage to test yourself as an archaeologist you can do just that in the activity room and at the detector area.
