Næstved Museum

Helligåndshuset (Holy Ghost House) from the 1400s was a hospital and poorhouse, and is one of the oldest surviving buildings from medieval Næstved. Today, Næstved Museum lives here and can you tell you lots more about Næstved’s past. Vikings in the Næstved area were located to the south of the present town at the end of Dybsø Fjord. Today this area is known as Vester Egesborg and was undoubtedly one of the largest specialised workshop sites in Denmark during the Viking Age.  In particular, the wealth of artefacts found here demonstrates a tangible link with the Vikings’ great commercial city – Hedeby. The objects are displayed in the museum.
