Tuesday, July 9 19:43: The evening sailing towards Haukesund offered a look at the big ocean and heavy traffic of freight ships and tankers.

At 17. 15 Skjoldungen turned a 'sharp' corner and out into the Bømla Fjord. With Mosterhamn to starboard, the large Atlantic Ocean lay right ahead and the evening sailing mission was to cross the Bømla Fjord and sail to Haugesund.

The Bømla Fjord is the outer part of the Hardangerfjord. It is a broad fjord with open water and several smaller islets along the coast on both sides and a lot of traffic in and out to Haugesund.
