A fresh breeze from north north-east is blowing provocatively into the mouth of the harbour in Lowestoft, while we wait impatiently for a change in the weather.
Today, half of the crew is on a bus tour of the area, visiting sights related to the Viking Age.
For the other half of the crew, the time is spent studying an air show that is taking place out over the water here in Lowestoft.

We drink coffee, eat ice cream, and study the weather forecast every other hour in the hope that we can see a small change in the weather situation. We discuss the situation. To sail 360 nautical miles will take about eight days and we can only have provisions and water on board for five to six days. To row is out of the question. We would not make any headway with the oars in a moderate to fresh breeze and accompanying swell. If the wind would just turn to the south-east, then we could sail.
We discuss whether we should sail to Den Helder in the Netherlands, a distance of 120 nautical miles. That would take about three days, depending on the wind and the sea. From there we would have a better course for Thyborøn with the easterly wind. We also discuss whether we should take a stretch up to Kristianssand in Norway.
We continuously study the weather forecasts and hope for a change in the wind direction soon.
We decide for the moment to hope for a change in the weather. At the moment we have time to wait. In perfect weather it is six days’ sailing from here to Roskilde, where we are due on 9 August. That’s in 16 days.
