Yet another long day

Published 26th Jul 2008

These days, writing a diary is difficult – laziness has the upper hand, sluggishness has taken hold and in the heat, which is close to 30°C, all activity has stopped. The day has passed with nothing – as early as an hour after breakfast the first hands were asleep on the beach with red shoulders and bleached hair. During the day, someone arranged a football match at the campsite, while others started the day’s usual ramble to the supermarket or ice cream shop. Many have simply hung around the boat and their faces reveal that they don’t know what to do with themselves.

Hopefully the evening will offer community singing at the campsite. We have a number of hands hiding wonderful singing voices and troubadour-like abilities, as well as a house orchestra of bagpipe-players, guitarists and drummers. Guitarists, Torben and Niels, wound up the party at the local football club. Because we painted the signboards and areas outdoors, we were given access to their common rooms and yesterday there was dance with a local DJ. To the tones of the hits of the 1970s and 1980s the crew let it all hang out and danced all the frustration out their bodies. The party was a smash and, when the lights were switched on, everyone was saturated with sweat after several hours of dancing in woollen clothing and thick trousers.
