BBC Timewatch shows: Viking Voyage
The BBC followed the Sea Stallion all the way when it made the first part of its trial voyage. Now a documentary about the trip is being broadcast in prime time on BBC 2.
For seven weeks, a producer and a camera man from the BBC's Timewatch History were part of the crew on the Sea Stallion’s support vessel covering the archaeological experiment, the voyage, and the experiences of the crew.
The film captures all seven weeks of the voyage and zooms in on the international crew, the human experiment, and the emotions awakened. It also gives some insight into how the Vikings achieved their great seamanship skills.
See interviews with the Sea Stallion Skipper and crew, the tow across the North Sea, the visit to the Orkneys, the voyage, the hospitality of the beautiful but harsh areas along the Scottish west coast, Stormy Monday, and the arrival in Dublin, where 100,000 people showed up to welcome the ship.
The Viking Voyage is being broadcast on BBC 2 tomorrow, 5th of January at 7.55 pm UK time.
