Film: Launch of the Viking Ship Museum's latest boat, 'Storkjoven'

"May the ship be easy for the oars, fast from the wind, but do not run from its skipper"...

Watch the film from the launch of the Viking Ship Museum's latest boat. The boat got the name 'Storkjoven' - after a bird found in large numbers on the island of Skúvoy, where the builder Hanus Jensen, who was in charge of the construction, comes from.

The Viking Ship Museum's boatyard are in the process of building two large Faroe Boats with 10 oars on each side - in Faroese 'teinæringur' - to be used for sailing with the museum's guests. The boats accommodate 20 guests each as well as two sailing instructors.

The two boats are being built right after each other - the first boat was completed in January 2018, and the second boat will be completed by the end of 2018. Visitors can follow the building process at the boat yard at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde.
