The Viking Ship Museum's Board of Directors:
The museum is managed by a board that is responsible for its operations.

Composition and competencies of the Board:
The Board consists of a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 8 members.
It is composed to ensure that its collective competencies always reflect the museum’s statutory purpose, its current situation and its strategic goals, by appointing individuals with:

It is composed to ensure that its collective competencies always reflect the museum’s statutory purpose, its current situation and its strategic goals, by appointing individuals with:

• political competence and local anchoring
• legal and administrative expertise, as well as insight into national-level political decision‑making processes
• international expertise within the museum’s field of responsibility
• competence in economics and business management
• relevant competencies supporting the museum’s strategic plan
• One person with insight into political decision-making processes at both a regional and state level - suggested by the Friends of the Viking Ship Museum

Board appointments:

• Roskilde City Council appoints at least 2 and at most 3 members from the City Council
• The Friends of the Viking Ship Museum appoint 2 individuals with competencies in law, administration and national political processes; economics and business management; and competencies relevant to the museum’s strategic plan
• The museum’s Board appoints the remaining members
