The image onthestamps is theSeaStallion, which is a reconstruction of Skuldelev 2, an old wessel that was excavated in Roskilde Fjord in 1962. The wreck turned out to be the remains of an impressive warship from the viking age. This viking warship was build in Dublin in the year 1042.
During the years 2000-2004 the old warship was revived as theSeaStallion from Glendalough. And during the summer of 2007 the crew of 65 men and women sailed the ship back to Dublin, where the original was build. This beautiful and striking warship can now be enjoyed by postmen, philatelists, letter writers and the like - and not just the ship itself, which is placed at the National Museum in Dublin, but also onthe Irish stamps. The stamp showing theSeaStallion has been designed by Vincent Killowry, the leading artist in the field of philately in Ireland. The stamp has been made in two versions: One for 55 cent and one for 3 euro.
