Falster Defence Complex

When Viking Age Falster people were in danger, they quickly sought refuge in the centre of the island – behind a huge defence complex.  Apart from the narrow southern stretch of the island, none of these islanders were more than 15km away from one of Denmark’s largest fortifications in ancient times. Earthworks up to 40m wide were built across an area of 1.5km. These defended a semi-circular palisade. The earthworks can still be seen from Virketvej at Tresnippen then along Listrupvej. There are info-signs at the site.
