Stone collectors

Skjoldungen gets an overhaul and the water bottles get filled

The crew has been out collecting stones.

Since wednesday Skjoldungen has been docked in Paamiut. The crew needs to recover both physically and mentally and to prepare for the next long stretch.

Ballast
The ship itself also needs an overhaul. Thus the cargo has been brought ashore and the ship has had a thourough cleansing inside and out. Water bottles have been filled and supplies are organized.

Usually Skjoldungen carry 600 kg of stone which serves as ballast to keep the ship steady in the water. The stones and the packing of them are extremely important for the ship's ability to sail. At the beginning of the trip many stones were removed to give place to supplies and gear. But now - three weeks into the trial voyage - many of the supplies have been used and the ship has become to ligth. That is why the crew yesterday went out to find more stones in order to restore the ballast and balance of the ship.

NB: Skipper tells us that Skjoldungen is cruising like a dream and handles both wind and waves perfectly
