The films show how withy is being developed and used while sailing

The film follows the whole process, from selecting the trees to be used to make withy, preparing the withy and finally where they are used during a voyage. It is an impressive job and it is clear to see that it is a difficult process, but also that it is skilled boat builders who have good control of making the withys perfect.

The wicker holds the rudder in place on a ship. They act as a rope that runs through the rudder and in through the side of the ship, and then the withy is fastened around the frame inside the ship. Withys is made of small birch trees, which are picked in the forest.
