Viking Talk: Food in the Viking Age
What did the Vikings eat? How did they prepare the food? It is inherently difficult to answer these questions, but knowledge from findings and stories can help us gain an insight into what raw materials and utensils the Vikings had available. For an average family, the diet mainly consisted of meat from domestic animals, hunting and fishing, home grown produce and collected berries and plants, as well as meat from hunting or fishing.
Saturday August 8th and Monday August 10th: you can take part in a Viking talk about the Vikings diet. Among other things, you can get answers to questions about what the Vikings ate, whether they only ate meat and drank mead and hear about raw materials, preservation of food and trade in exotic spices. Along the way, participants will be offered a small tasting sample.
When: Saturday August 8th and Monday August 10th at 12:00
Duration: 50 minutes
Meeting point: At ticket sales
