July 5-11: Warfare, battle and sharp weapons
Published 01th Jul 2021

Do you think you could have survived in the Viking Age? Learn to fight with swords and shields, and find out if you can become a true Viking warrior.

Swords, shields and brave warriors

From Monday the 5th until Sunday the 11th of July, the Viking warrior demonstrates his sharp weapons and teaches you to fight with swords and shields. The warrior welcomes children and adults to fun days of warrior training - and there will probably be room for laughter while you train and fight!

The Viking warrior, Tom Jersø, also shows how the weapons of the Viking Age were used and tells about the Vikings' combat techniques, and how one could protect oneself from the deadly blows.

Viking voyages

You can meet the warrior on 'Strandengen' - the meadow - with a view of the museum harbor, where the beautiful Viking ships are located. Once you have fought and played Viking warriors, you can board the impressive longship and imagine how the Vikings went on a voyage - to England or perhaps even further afield.

Get to know the Viking Age warriors

Most Viking warriors were equipped with axes and shields, while the rich warriors could have expensive weapons, such as swords, helmets and chain mail.
Martial arts were a craft that one had to learn and one had to train in order to become the best warrior and thus be able to hope to return home to the family after the expedition.

From 5 to 11 July, the warrior shows his weapons and teaches the young warriors to fight with swords and shields so that they can become real herdsmen - the king's warriors. Afterwards, you can try out the Vikings' fighting technique and challenge the adults to compete.
