Help us learn more about how the professional community perceives the Viking Ship Museum's research

We are currently developing a new research strategy. We therefore wish to acquire a better understanding of how our research is perceived by our peers.

At the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde, we are currently developing a new research strategy. We therefore wish to acquire a better understanding of how our research is perceived by our peers.

We hope that you will assist in mapping the strengths and weaknesses of our research to date, as well as highlighting potential areas for development within both our field of research and methodological approaches, as seen from your perspective.

Thanks in advance.

The Viking Ship Museum's field of research is maritime and marine cultural history in the past and our methodological approaches are primarily based on experimental archaeology and maritime archaeology.

This relatively niche field of research creates an opportunity for focused research endeavours but also involves an inherent risk of tunnel-vision. Our areas of strategic focus must not just reflect what we ourselves judge to be relevant but also what our peers view as important issues to investigate - whilst also reflecting the manner in which the Viking Ship Museum’s maritime research potential best can contribute to current research questions and discourse.

We therefore wish to acquire a better understanding of how our research is perceived by our peers. And this is where you come into the picture. You have been carefully chosen as a leading representative for one of the many different forms and fields of scholarship, with which we have contact via our research.

By responding to the following survey, you are contributing to the development of the investigation of Northern Europe’s maritime and marine past and have the chance to have a say in terms of the Viking Ship Museum’s strategic research focus in the future.

Your answer is anonymous and will not be made public. The collated evaluation in the form of a final report for internal use will not be made public either. Central conclusions and tendencies in the evaluation may, however, be referred to in generalised terms.

We greatly appreciate your answers and contribution to understanding the relevance of the Viking Ship Museum’s research.

Together with the other replies, your answer will be utilised as an anonymous and general evaluation of our research. This evaluation will assist the Viking Ship Museum with the formulation of a new research strategy, thereby laying the foundation for future research projects and collaborations.

If you have any questions or would like further information on the evaluation, please contact the Museum’s Research Coordinator, Morten Ravn or Head of Research, Jesper Stub Johnsen
