In the Viking Ship Hall and on the Strandengen, you can get close to the objects the Vikings surrounded themselves with – and which may once have been on board the small warship Skuldelev 5.

In the hall, we delve into items that tell stories of life at sea: weapons, amulets, food, and game pieces. Each object holds a story – of faith and doubt, of battle and rest, of community and survival. What did a warrior wear around his neck for protection? What did they eat on long voyages? And what games did they play when the wind died down?

Outside, on the Strandengen, you’ll encounter traces of everyday life on land. Here you’ll find objects like furs, fire steels, and coins – items that speak of trade, craftsmanship, and household life. These are not just remnants. They are voices. They speak of people who lived, loved, froze, hoped, and fought – and who, in many ways, were not so different from us.

Each object opens a window to the past. And perhaps you’ll discover that what we call history is, in fact, a series of small, human moments – preserved in wood, iron, and textile.

You can meet the guide every day from 13:30 to 15:30.
