The Troll Mounds in Strandegård Deer Park

Strandegård Deerpark lies just south of Faxe Ladeplads, from whence Rollo set sail to conquer Normandy. Here centuries old trees rise 15 metres above Faxe Bay. In this tranquil area, people have laid their families to rest throughout the ages. Still protected under the tall canopy of trees, is a small, 6,000 year old cairn from the Neolithic period and close to the steep cliffs lies a group of Bronze Age mounds overlooking the sea. According to legend, a sea-king is buried in the largest mound, his horse in the next one and his treasures in the third.  Close by, you will see what looks like nothing more than a pile of stones, but an old drawing shows it’s actually the remains of a Viking Age stone ship.
