As the Sea Stallion crew rows out of Dublin on 29 June, they will have the sound of sea shanties from the age of sail ringing in their ears

Two sea-shanty choirs will sing classic sea songs from the age of sail on Custom Quay, where the Sea Stallion is moored in Dublin harbour, before it sets off at noon on 29 June.

There will be all kinds of musical contributions during the morning, but the shanties will really give the occasion a maritime flavour.

It all began when the ‘Stork Ejlaenders’ gave a performance with their deep, manly voices at the Sea Stallion’s annual Christmas party last November. Everybody sang along and there was real sea spray around the tables. The success created rapport between the choir from Fanø and the crew of the Sea Stallion.

After that, the “Stork Ejlaenders” worked hard to get to Dublin, and much has come out of these efforts.

Hooks & Crookes

The choir from Fanø made contact with an Irish sea-shanty choir from Waterford called ‘Hooks & Crookes’, and the two choirs will give a double concert before the ship sails. The day before, the choirs will warm up in the Guinness Sky Bar in Dublin.
