Artists Iben Brøndum and Helle Hove are working on a giant decoration that will spread out across the City Park in Roskilde for when the Sea Stallion comes home.

“The decoration is a salute to people who dare take a chance and throw themselves into something where the outcome is unknown – the Vikings of old, the people at the Museum, and the Sea Stallion crew, who sail with no guarantee of success – and all others who take such risks,” explains Helle Hove.

Inspired by Viking decoration, the two artists will create hundred-metre long lines and spirals in the grass with huge slices of light-coloured wood.

“We want to create an interpretation of the magic and power we find in Viking carvings”, says Iben Brøndum. “Its huge size means that you will have to physically move around the decoration to experience it fully”.

Right now, her workshop at the “Roskilde Gasworks” Arts Centre is filled with drawings and models of the decoration ordered by Roskilde City Council.  The decoration will be set up with help from a group of international youth and can be seen over the weekend of 9-10 August 2008.
