An air force helicopter from Squadron 722 in Ålborg suddenly appeared in the sky yesterday afternoon. The helicopter crew carried out an exercise with MHV Jupiter right in front of the surprised eyes of the crew of the Sea Stallion.
“We often carry out exercises with helicopters from air force stations all over the country. We train particularly in getting injured people up from the ship to the helicopter. When an accident happens at sea, the helicopter is always the quickest way to hospital”, says Lieutenant-Commander Henrik Rask. One of the Naval Home Guard’s many roles is to help save lives at sea.
The big Sikorsky helicopter hung just a few metres above the rolling quarterdeck on MHV Jupiter and the crew were lowered and hoisted up several times. On board the helicopter were two doctors, a paramedic, and two pilots. One of the doctors was under training for this very demanding work.
