And it will probably bee the same when the families are reunited!
Some crew members on board the Sea Stallion will already see their Family in Dublin. Almost a hundred wives’s, mothers, siblings and other family members have shown an interest in participating in an arranged trip for relatives. And even more a taking the going to Dublin on their own.
An agency is arranging everything.
Project leader Preben Rather Sørensen from the Viking Ship Museum informs that the museum have chosen to invite offers from professional travel agencies.
”To arrange a journey for that many people is a big job and right now the museum are focusing on all the things that needs to arranged for the actual test sail. That is why we have chosen to get travel agencies to give us an offer – and then we will pick the best one.”
And according to Preben Rather Sørensen there are plenty of reasons for travelling to Dublin.
”You can’t blame the relatives for wanting to see their loved ones on board. But besides the actual welcome in Dublin harbour and the reunion, several arrangements are getting planned as we speak.
The Vikings and the Book of Cells.
”The National Museum of Ireland has a big and exciting exhibition on the Vikings in Ireland. And Trinity College – The University were the crew members are staying in Dublin – are displaying the famous and beautifully decorated Book of Cells from the 7th century. And I do think that a trip to the storied Glendalough will be arranged,” says Preben Rather Sørensen.
According to the plan so far, the Sea Stallion are reaching Dublin harbour at 14th for august…. At two o clock!
The crew members are going back to Denmark five days upon arrival in Dublin. After a couple of days of resting and meeting relatives its time to unrig the ship. And then they crew can discharge and go home.
A month later the ship is dragged to the Nation Museum where it will be on display throughout the winter.
